Article of the Month – May 2008
On the FIG web site we publish each month a paper called the Article of the Month. This is a high-level paper focusing on interesting topics to all surveyors. It can be picked up from an FIG conference or another event. The Article of the Month in May 2008 is written by Dr. Mathias Lemmens, Christiaan Lemmen and Martin Wubbe, The Netherlands. Their paper "Pictometry: Potentials for Land Administration” was originally prepared for and presented at the 6th FIG Regional Conference in San José, Costa Rica 12-15 November 2007. www.fig.net/pub/monthly_articles/may_2008/

International Seminar on State and Public Land Management will be organised in Verona, Italy, September 9-10, 2008, just before the FIG Commission 7 Annual Meeting. The seminar is organised by FIG Commission 7 and the Consiglio Nazionale Geometri (CNG), in co-operation with FIG Commission 9 and FAO Land Tenure and Management Unit. The major goal of the seminar is to share experience and discuss policy options and practices in relation to state and public sector land management, including between land managers, policy advisers and decision makers and their professional advisers, and the civil society organisations working in these areas. The seminar will help raise global awareness of problems associated with state/public land and its management, improve knowledge of good practices in this area, and encourage these to be increasingly addressed in new development initiatives. FIG Task Force on Institutional and Organisational Development Questionnaire
The Task Force on Institutional and Organisational Development, set up at the 2007 FIG General Assembly, has been progressing its work. A key element to allow further progress is for the Task Force to understand areas where particular support and assistance is required, and whether this is the same throughout the world or varies by region. To allow it to gather information in a structured manner, the Task Force has created an on-line survey which will take about 20 minutes to complete. As many surveyors, and related professionals, as possible are encouraged to complete the questionnaire. Questionnaires completed by 31 May 2008 will be particularly helpful, as this will allow the Task Force to advance its work at the Working Week in Stockholm in June. Read more about the Task Force at its web site: http://www.fig.net/tf/organisation/
