Welcome to the FIG e-Newsletter, which brings you latest information about the FIG and its activities. The information referred here is in full length available on the FIG web site. Thus the e-Newsletter is produced to inform you what has happened recently and what interesting things are going to take place in the near future. The FIG e-Newsletter is circulated by e-mail monthly. The referred articles are in English and written in a way that you are able to extract them to your national newsletters or circulate to your members.
Article of the Month – December 2008
On the FIG web site we publish each month a paper called the Article of the Month. This is a high-level paper focusing on interesting topics to all surveyors. It can be picked up from an FIG conference or another event. The Article of the Month in December 2008 is written by Mr. Willi Zimmermann from Germany. His paper “Effective and Transparent Management of Public Land” is an updated version of the paper that has been presented at the FIG/FAO/CNG International Seminar on State and Public Land Management in Verona, Italy, 9-10 September 2008. FIG Working Week 2009 - Surveyors Key Role in Accelerated Development, Eilat, Israel, 3-8 May 2009
The organisers of FIG Working Week 2009 have received almost 300 proposals for presentations. Deadline for abstracts has passed but still some late coming proposals will be considered. The authors will be informed about their papers in early January and the programme will be published mid January 2009. John Neel appointed as General Manager of FIG
Mr. John Neel from Denmark has been appointed to the General Manager of FIG. John was selected among a range of qualified candidates. As General Manager he will have complete responsibility for the management and administration of the FIG Office. FIG President Stig Enemark attended the Expert Group Meeting on Voluntary Guidelines on Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land and other Natural Resources at FAO Headquarters, Rome, Italy, 24–25 November 2008. FAO, and partners such as the World Bank, UN-HABITAT, IFAD (International Federation of Agricultural Development), and FIG have been working since 2005 on governance of land administration to raise awareness and produce guidelines. Nomination of Chair Elect for Commission 8 and 10
FIG Council is looking for nominations for the position of Chair Elect in Commission 8 – Spatial Planning and Development and Commission 10 - Construction Economics and Management. The Chair Elect will serve as Chair Elect of the Commission 2009-2010 and he/she will in normal situation then be appointed as the chair of his/her Commission for 2011-2014. Member association willing to make a nomination are requested to send the nomination letter together with the profile of the candidate to the FIG Office, email: fig@fig.net by 3 January 2009. The election will take place at the General Assembly in Eilat, Israel, 3-8 May 2009. A letter on making the nomination has been sent to the member associations.
