Article of the Month – October 2008
On the FIG web site we publish each month a paper called the Article of the Month. This is a high-level paper focusing on interesting topics to all surveyors. It can be picked up from an FIG conference or another event. The Article of the Month in October 2008 is written by Dr. Anna K. Tibaijuka, Under Secretary General and Executive Director UN-HABITAT. Her paper “Improving Slum Conditions through Innovative Financing” was presented as the keynote address at the Opening Ceremony of the FIG Working Week 2008 in Stockholm, Sweden 15 June 2008. FIG Office Update – Position of FIG General Manager
Following the resignation of the Office Manager in Copenhagen earlier this year, the opportunity has been taken to review the duties of office staff and also reduce the heavy workload that the Director has been carrying. It is planned to upgrade the vacant position to that of General Manager as it will have complete responsibility for the management and administration of the office. This will allow the current Director to allocate a higher percentage of his time to supporting the President and Council and developing the FIG events. The position of General Manager is being advertised in this issue of the Newsletter and in other media to ensure FIG obtains the best available person to manage the office.
