Safer and Less Polluting Equipment on EU Flagged Ships – The Marine Equipment Directive (2014/90/EU)

The new Marine Equipment Directive will be introduced. While safety standards for marine equipment are set internationally, this European legislation has been established to ensure these requirements are applied uniformly on board European ships.

IDA Conference, København V

Mandag d. 20. februar 2017

Kl. 16:30 - 20:00

On September 18th 2016, the EC Marine Equipment Directive 2014/90/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council on Marine Equipment, entered into force. This is the first major revision to the original Council Directive 96/98/EC, also known in layman’s terms as the ‘ship wheel mark standard’.

The significant changes to the Directive will be presented, including which extra conditions will be imposed on the national authorities responsible for certifying equipment on ships flying their flag when issuing, endorsing or renewing certificates, and what impacts this has for manufacturers of marine equipment. This evening will try to provide an introduction and some clarity of a rather unclear and complex subject – the MED 2014/90/EU - the ‘wheel mark’ standard.

The presentations of the evening will be in English
