Black Holes are truly extreme and bizarre objects that push the boundaries of our imagination. Yet, tentalizing evidence of their existence continues to mount: First, the motion of stars around an unseen dark object in the center of our own galaxy, then gravitational waves from colliding black holes, and now even actual images of black holes in the center of our own galaxy and the distant galaxy M87.
I will give an insider's perspective on how the Event Horizon Telescope captured these images and highlight aspects we now begin to understand. Finally we end with an outlook of what the future holds and the questions we currently have no answers to.
