“The Quantum Threat Explained” is a focused presentation designed to highlight the risks that quantum computing poses to IT and cyber security. Presented by Thales, a leading French technology corporation and global cyber security vendor, Senior Consultant Mr. Kaare S. Mortensen draws on over 40 years of IT experience to guide attendees through the quantum threat landscape.

Quantum computing represents a leap in computational power, enabling solutions to problems previously unsolvable by classical computers. While this promises advances in many fields, it threatens current IT security methods.

The race is underway between quantum computer development and quantum-safe cryptography. Thales and other industry leaders are working on post-quantum algorithms, but most organizations rely on legacy systems and have limited awareness. Transitioning to new standards is urgent and challenging.

Denmark maintains rigorous requirements for IT security and data protection, in alignment with the European Union. All Danish organizations—including public authorities and private enterprises—must ensure compliance with GDPR and other schemes, which mandates robust encryption to safeguard personal and sensitive data. The quantum threat introduces new compliance risks, as quantum computers may eventually compromise current cryptographic standards and we will look at how regulators are handling this.

Quantum computers are approaching, and their impact on IT and cyber security will be profound. This presentation equips attendees with the latest knowledge and steps needed to prepare for a secure and compliant future in Denmark.
