  • 17:30 – 17:45 Welcome
  • 17:45 - 18:15 Greenlandic nautical chart production (Online presentation); Steff Nielsen Head of Section, Ministry of Housing, Infrastructure and Outer Districts, Greenland.
    Nautical charts are essential for daily life in Greenland, where travel often depends on maritime vessels due to the lack of roads. The Government of Greenland prioritizes nautical chart production as a cornerstone of national infrastructure. This presentation explores Greenland’s collaboration with Denmark to create these charts, as well as the key challenges and priorities involved.
  • 18:15 - 18:45 Sea level changes in an era of climate change - implications for the Arctic, Ole Baltazar Andersen, Professor, Head of Section, DTU Space.
    We are in an era of climate change and Arctic is no exception. This presentation will focus on how new satellite technologies like SWOT (Surface water and ocean topography) can improve our knowledge about sea level, ocean currents, ice extent and even bathymetry. All quantities which are of high valuable for matime operations in the Arctic  
  • 18:45 – 19:15 Break (Sandwich)
  • 19:15 – 19:45 Arctic Maritime Challenges (Online presentation), Ove Tobias Gudmestad, Professor Emeritus, Stavanger.
    Ove Tobias Gudstad is presenting the Arctic parts of his work as a Professor Emeritus at the Maritime Department in Stavanger. He will cover the following points:
    - The Arctic maritime scene
    - Discussion about fuel; burning heavy oil emits soot, covering the ice with a black layer of dust.
    - The sustainability of the cruise industry
    - Survival in a lifeboat or a raft
    - The limitations of the International Polar Code
    - Access to minerals, year-round transport
    - Is the use of the Northern Shipping Route sustainable?
    - Future weather trends as the ice cover is retracting
    - There will still be cold winter periods 
  • 19:45 – 20:15 The New Polarstern – An Arctic Research Vessel (Online presentation); Detlef Wilde, Alfred-Wegner-Institute.
    - Overview of German polar activities and AWI institute
    - Objectives of the New Polarstern
    - Organization of project
    - Design overview
    - Status and planning
    - Video animation

The event is in collaboration with Danish Society for Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
