The climate change is inevitable unless united forces collaborate to avoid increased CO2 and other gas emissions that cause temperature increase resulting in dramatic forest fires and devastating flooding. One large contributor to CO2 emission is the world-wide extensive production and incineration of plastic. With the constantly increasing production and consumption of fossil-based plastic urgent action is needed. Can the increased societal plastic consumption and recirculation be part of the future circular economy?

This thematic meeting will focus on the future regulatory aspects, followed by present reuse of industrial as well as collected household plastic waste. Finally ongoing efforts, to the foreseen ultimate replacement of the fossil-based polymers, the biobased building blocks and polymers, will be elaborated.
