Become a mentor
Make a difference as a mentor
You can make a huge difference as a mentor. By sharing the paths, shortcuts and detours you have taken during your career, you help the mentee turn possible doubts into clarity.
At the same time, you gain new learning, new insights and new perspectives on your own working life and expertise. You will also have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills and improve your communication skills by sharing your own experiences in a constructive way.
What do we expect from you as a mentor?
- You are good at listening and see opportunities rather than limitations.
- You ask challenging and open-ended questions.
- You are connected to the labour market.
- You have at least 5 years of job experience as a mentor for mentees in employment.
- After the match, you are invited to the mandatory IDA Mentor Kick-off.
- You are offered an annual IDA Mentor Master Class.
We will, of course, prepare you well to be a mentor. IDA offers a course focusing on different mentor roles to ensure the optimal outcome of the mentoring process.
Process for signing up
You sign up for the mentoring programme by creating a profile on our mentoring platform. On the platform, you can elaborate on your experience and what you can contribute to a mentoring programme.
Once your mentor profile is completed thoroughly, it will be visible to mentees, who will then be able to send you a match request that you can choose to accept or decline.
It is important that you are committed to the programme, as registration is binding for the mentee.
We run two match rounds per year in February and September. So it is only during these two months that you will potentially be contacted by new mentees. It is only possible to have one mentee at a time.
How long does a mentor programme last?
IDA offers a number of different mentor programmes:
- 6-month programme: a 6-month mentoring programme where the mentee is a recent graduate.
- 9-month programme: a 9-month mentoring programme for mentees with more than two years of work experience.
It will state on your mentee's profile which programme they are enrolled in and for how long it lasts.
You meet with your mentee approximately every 4-6 weeks. The mentee will set the agenda, as the focus is on their career. The meetings typically last 1.5 hours. For both programmes, both mentor and mentee must be employed to participate.
After the match:
After the match, you are invited to the mandatory IDA Mentor Kick-off.
At the kick-off, we will go through the framework of the mentor program and present a range of tools that you can use in the mentor relationship. You will also meet your mentor or mentee.
Additionally, there is a Mentor Master Class for all current and former matched mentors with a relevant theme for mentors, followed by a light meal in Copenhagen (provided there are 12 participants). Travel reimbursement will also be possible in this context.
