AI agents have become one of the most talked-about concepts in the world of AI this year. But what exactly is an AI agent? Is it a science fiction-like fully autonomous entity operating across multiple domains, or just a simple customer service chatbot capable of updating your email address in a mobile provider’s database? In this presentation, I’ll share my perspective on how we can move beyond labeling systems as “agents” or “non-agents” and instead think of agency as a spectrum. My goal is to challenge binary thinking and promote a more nuanced understanding, better aligned with the diversity of real-world AI applications.
Bio: I work hands-on as an AI Engineer, building LLM-driven applications both as a full-time hire at Norlys and through my freelance business. I have collaborated with some of Denmark’s largest companies, designing and deploying everything from simple RAG chatbots to advanced multi-agent systems.
