V2G status: How far have we come and what‘s next?

Bidirectional charging and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology have long promised to better integrate electric vehicles into the electricity grid, but adoption remains limited - especially with CCS and MCS connectors. This session will examine the latest standards and protocols enabling V2G, the state of adoption, and the technical challenges that remain, with a focus on ensuring interoperability between vehicles, charging stations, and the grid of the future.

Bio: Rasmus Meier Knudsen is an Electrical Engineer at Monta, a Danish charging software scaleup, where he works with key standards and protocols for V2G technology, including OCPP and ISO 15118. He ensures charging hardware compatibility across 600+ charging station models while enabling advanced energy management, grid services, and smart charging solutions. Rasmus holds a Master’s degree in Electric Energy Systems from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and wrote his thesis on V2G technology. As part of a DTU research group, he contributed to one of the first successful demonstrations of DC V2G via the CCS connector on a commercially available electric vehicle.
