The first job

Get inspiration, support and the opportunity to share experiences with others who are in their first full time position. The group is facilitated in English, but is open for both Danish and international IDA members.

Navigate Your First Job

Your first full-time job as a graduate is often characterized by a steep learning curve and many first-time experiences. This includes your first performance review, salary negotiation, office Christmas party, collegial friendships, and more. Doing something for the first time is empowering and also the only way to learn. However, entering unknown territory can be daunting and may even make you second-guess your abilities.

You may be unsure about what is expected of you in terms of workload or work hours, or your tasks may be uninspiring, challenging, or simply not what you expected. No matter the considerations or challenges you face, you are not alone.

Peer Group Meetings Are Confidential and Facilitated

The peer group provides a confidential space where you can follow each other’s development and share insights and experiences. Over time, you will get to know your fellow group members well and be able to give each other tailored advice and feedback.

The group’s facilitators introduce relevant exercises and tools that provide valuable insights into your interests, skills, strengths, and areas for development.

You choose the themes

The peer group takes a point of departure in cases from your working lives and careers. Our tools include mentoring and discussion, case work, and visits from external experts who can bring new insights. Your interests serve as the foundation for the peer group, and you can contribute ideas for topics, cases, or presentations that facilitate valuable discussion. The group is confidential and provides a safe space to discuss current challenges with like-minded individuals who are not personally invested in your workplace.

Examples of topics you can discuss in the group

  • Identity change from student or PhD student to employee
  • Aligning expectations with your manager
  • Dealing with pressure and stress
  • Learning to say ‘no’
  • Work-life balance
  • Communicating and handling conflict
  • How to approach a performance review
  • Salary negotiation
  • Establishing good relationships with colleagues

Please note

The peer group is for IDA-members only and is only set up if an adequate number of people show interest.
