IDA Environment LCA
A New LCA Community Established Under IDA Environment
At the beginning of this millennium, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency launched “The Danish Consensus Project” to establish a common approach to life cycle assessments (LCAs) in Denmark. Since then, a number of standards and requirements have emerged in the field, including from the EU.
Therefore, last year a group of LCA experts from Danish universities, companies, and public authorities joined forces to seek a new consensus.
The result was a proposal for a decision tree for LCAs—but more importantly, a shared recognition of the need for a dedicated forum where professionals can discuss LCAs with peers and take the time to explore the opportunities and challenges related to different approaches, upcoming regulations, and practical implementation issues.
This has now become a reality with the establishment of the IDA Environment LCA community.
IDA Environment LCA is a professional network of life cycle assessment experts working to clarify the practical and theoretical implications of conducting LCAs and to support current and forthcoming guidelines, standards, and regulations. Each year, we organize four meetings with the option for partial online participation. All meetings are held in English.
Participation requires a certain level of expertise within the LCA field, as the primary focus is in-depth insight into current practices and future regulations, as well as networking with other LCA professionals.
This professional community was founded by a group of LCA experts from universities, companies, and public authorities who met three times in 2025 to develop a guiding decision tree for conducting LCAs.
