About IDA GIG
IDA GIG focuses on knowledge sharing through presentations at in-person workshops held once or twice a year. The IDA GIG board endeavours to draw up an agenda for these events that reflects the needs and interests of the participants.
IDA GIG has traditionally focused primarily on rotating machinery and gearing, but areas such as hydraulic actuation now also fall within the group’s areas of interest.
As gearboxes within the wind industry in particular have created a need for knowledge sharing, the following areas have been a particular focus:
- Spur gear design and types of damage
- Rolling bearings; service life and types of damage
- Gearbox design and development
Recently, however, there has also been considerable interest in:
- Slide bearings
- Oil, lubrication and filtration
