What does it cost to become a member of IDA?
The membership fee is based on on your employment status.
Students, the unemployed, individuals on parental leave and retirees pay a lower fee.

What are my membership benefits at IDA?
Your IDA membership gives you access to a wide range of benefits - including:

How do I become a member of IDA?
To become a member of IDA, you must meet one of the criteria below:
- You are studying or have studied a bachelor's or master's degree in a STEM subject
- You have a minimum of 3 years of university education and currently work in a STEM role
- You work at the same level as IDA's members, even if you do not have a university degree.

If you are not already a member of IDA, you can join now - and as an extra bonus you get three months' free trial membership.
If you are a student member, you'll get 12 months of membership for free.
I have joined IDA, but I did not receive an email confirmation. What do I do?
If you have signed up for IDA and you do not receive a confirmation email with confirmation of your membership and your IDA number, you must contact Member Services on 33 18 48 48.
How do I pay my IDA membership fee?
You can sign up for automatic payment of your fees with Betalingsservice.
If you are not registered with Betalingsservice, your invoices from IDA will be sent to your e-Boks and you must remember to pay them yourself before the deadline.
What is Betalingsservice?
Betalingsservice is an automatic payment service that allows you to sign up for automatic payment of your future bills and invoices.
That way you wont need to remember to pay each invoice, and you avoid reminders.

How do I register for Betalingsservice (PBS)?
You can register your bill or invoice with Betalingsservice the first time you pay it either via e-box or via your online bank.
Betalingsservice is not available in English for the time being, but you can view IDA’s guide to setting up your bills for automatic payment in Betalingsservice.

Please note that if you are a member of a professional network where you have to pay an annual fee, you must register your general membership fee and your professional network fee separately. You can do so via the links below.

You will find your IDA number or member number on My IDA under My Profile - Membership.
Log in and see your membership number / IDA number
You will find your registration number (4 digits) and your account number (10 digits) on the back of your payment card (Dankort, VISA card or Mastercard) or in your online bank.
Please note that you must pay your invoice manually until it appears in the Betalingsservice summary that your bank sends you every month.
When do I have to pay the fee?
You must pay your IDA membership fee quarterly, every three months. The payment is collected at the beginning of:
- February
- May
- August
- November.
If you pay the membership fee annually, the amount is charged on February 5.
Student membership of IDA is paid half-yearly, with payment in:
- May
- November.
Can I pay the membership fee once a year?
You can save 1.5% on your fee if you switch to annual payment.
Unemployed, students and members with reduced fee are not eligible for the discount.
If you want to pay annually, you must update your profile on My IDA.
- Click on 'Switch payment frequency'.
- Please note that the change will apply from next January.
The change will take effect from the upcoming month of January.
You may switch to annual payment at any time during the year, but the change must be made no later than December 31 in order for it to apply to the following year.
The annual membership fee must be paid by February 5 to qualify for the discount.
It is not possible to pay your fees annually if you are unemployed.
On the same page, you can change back to quarterly payment if you already pay annually. In that case, the change will take effect from the next quarter after you updated your profile.
My invoice has expired, what do I do?
You can still pay your invoice even though it has expired. Instead, you need to pay it via your bank using the bank payment slip on the invoice.
Can I have my fee for IDA reduced if I am unemployed, on parental leave, posted abroad, on early retirement, on pension, on military service or a member of another trade union?
As a member of IDA, you can get a reduced fee when you
- are unemployed
- are on parental leave (during the parental leave benefit period)
- are posted abroad
- are employed on local terms abroad
- retire / go on early retirement (efterløn)
- are doing military service
- are a member of another trade union that has bargaining rights for you
If you are doing military service or are a member of another trade union, you must write to us with the following information:
- When does the change apply from - and possibly when to?
- If you are a member of another trade union, you have to state which trade union it is.
In all other cases, you can get your fee reduced by updating your profile on My IDA in the box 'My situation has changed'.
All membership fee changes are effective from the first February, May, August or November after you have updated your profile.
If you are unemployed, note that you must update your profile before the start of each quarter of the year in order to continue to adjust your membership fee.

Can I get a reduced membership fee if my unemployment benefit has expired?
If your full entitlement to unemployment benefits has expired, you may apply for a reduced membership fee of 60 DKK per quarter.

Please remember to attach documentation from your unemployment insurance fund confirming that your entitlement to benefits has ended.
I have changed my status to pay a reduced fee, why am I still being charged my "old" fee?
If you are granted a reduced membership fee for example because you become unemployed, go on parental leave, enter early retirement, or retire the changes will take effect from the next quarter (February, May, August or November) after you have updated your profile in Mit IDA. Therefore, you may find that you are still charged for 'your old rate', even though you have reported the change.

If you are unemployed, please note that you must update your profile before the beginning of each quarter in order to continue receiving the reduced rate.

Can I be a student member if I study abroad or do not hold a qualifying degree for student membership?
If you are a student and are studying abroad as part of your Danish degree programme, you may remain a student member.
If you are enrolled in a programme in Denmark or abroad that does not qualify for student membership, but you have already completed a qualifying degree, you may receive a reduced membership fee of 97 DKK per month (289.25 DKK per quarter).
Can I still be a member of IDA if I work abroad?
You can still be a member of IDA if you work abroad.
If you work abroad on a foreign, local contract, you will pay a reduced membership fee and you will not have access to legal advice and career counselling.
If you are posted abroad on a Danish contract, you still have access to both legal and career counselling.
As an IDA member abroad, you still have access to your other membership benefits plus the opportunity to gain guest membership in a number of foreign organisations and networks.

How do I get reduced membership fees as an IDA member while living abroad?
If you are working abroad on a foreign contract, you can get your membership fee reduced.
PLEASE NOTE that if you are working abroad on a foreign, local contract, you do not have access to legal and career counselling in IDA.

How to get your membership fee reduced:
- Log in to My IDA and select My Profile
- Select the option: I will be working abroad
- Fill in the start date and end date of your stay abroad.

What should I do with my IDA membership when I return to Denmark after living abroad?
If you have notified IDA of an end date for your stay abroad when you moved abroad, you will automatically transfer to a regular Danish membership for full-time employees when the end date arrives.
If you return home earlier, or if you have not reported an end date, you must report it to IDA when you return. You can either call us or write to us via this form.
How do I obtain Nordic guest membership of IDA or a similar association in another Nordic country?
If you are an IDA member and are temporarily employed in another Nordic country (Finland, Iceland, Norway or Sweden), you may become a guest member of that country’s engineering association for up to three years or up to two years in the Faroe Islands.
You retain your IDA membership, and at no additional cost you will receive relevant services from the engineering association in the country where you are working.
If you are from another Nordic country and are working in Denmark, you may become a guest member of IDA.

Can I be a member of IDA if I am retired?
You may remain a member of IDA even if you are no longer active in the labour market.
As a retired member of IDA, you are not eligible for legal counselling on salary and employment matters or for career counselling.
You may continue to use all other IDA membership benefits.

To become a retired member of IDA, you must be receiving early retirement benefits or a pension, and you must work fewer than five hours per week on average or not work at all.
Please note that membership fees are not tax‑deductible for retired members of IDA.
I can't log in to My IDA - what do I do?
If you have not been logged in before, click on "Create a user profile".
If you are already registered as a user, you must use your membership number and the email address you registered with as your username. If you use a different email address than the one we have registered, the system cannot recognise you.
If you have forgotten your password, you can click on the "Forgot password" link and receive an email with a link that you can use to create a personal password.

How do I cancel my IDA membership?
You can cancel your membership of IDA at My IDA.
When you cancel your membership there is a cancellation period of 3 months + current month.
