Mewalii focuses on making it easy to make sustainable choices while being safe and secure. That's why Mewalii has developed a sanitary pad made from hemp, biofilm, and a small amount of viscose. It looks like the pads you know today - the only difference is the materials and the consideration for your body, the climate, and the planet.
Today, most pads are made of plastic and/or cotton, which are two environmentally and climate-damaging materials. Mewalii's pads consist of more than 70% hemp, biofilm, viscose, and glue. The glue currently contains traditional plastic, which Mewalii are working to remove. This means that Mewalii's pads contain less than 5% traditional plastic.
Why use hemp?
- Because hemp requires far fewer resources than cotton.
- By using hemp instead of cotton, up to 28,000 liters of water per kg can be saved during cultivation
- Hemp requires no pesticides or insecticides
- Hemp's fiber yield is about three times higher compared to cotton

About Mewalii
Mewalii was founded in 2019 by Frederikke Dahl and Simone Westergaard. They met during an entrepreneurship program at SDU in Odense, where they were challenged to turn an idea into reality, and that’s where the Mewalii journey began.
They both grew up with different approaches to sustainability, which is why, from the very beginning, their goal has been to make sustainable living easy and accessible for everyone.
To achieve this, Frederikke went into the lab at SDU to figure out how to make single-use pads less resource-intensive. She tested and treated a wide range of fibers to find the best one and the best treatment process, ultimately leading to the use of hemp fiber.
Over the past four years, the two entrepreneurs have worked to find the right manufacturer and the right suppliers to create the pad they envisioned. This work resulted in the launch of Denmark’s first daytime and nighttime hemp pads on their webshop on January 8, 2024.
