Managing Azure Cost the smart way: FinOps in action

Ever heard someone say their cloud costs were surprisingly low this month? Neither have we. In this interactive workshop, we demystify Azure costs, show how FinOps supports smarter choices, and explore Azure's native cost management capabilities.

Azure offers great flexibility, but that flexibility comes with multiple pricing models and real cost trade-offs. In this workshop, we introduce the most common Azure pricing models and show how FinOps helps teams manage cloud costs in a structured and practical way.

We'll briefly touch on differences between cloud and on-premise, but we assume participants already understand what the cloud is. The focus is on applying FinOps principles in Azure, understanding the complexities associated with different pricing models, knowing where to search for pricing information, and finally creating an overview of Azure-native cost management tools.

We'll cover:

  • What FinOps is and how it helps manage and optimize cloud costs
  • How FinOps connects engineering, finance, and business
  • Azure pricing models such as Pay-As-You-Go, Reservations, Savings Plans, Spot, and Serverless
  • Azure-native cost management capabilities including budgets, alerts, anomaly detection, and forecasting
  • Practical examples from real Azure workloads

The session is interactive and participants are expected to collaborate in small groups and discuss real-world scenarios.

Target group: This session is for anyone working with or close to Azure (engineers, architects, product owners, IT managers) and who wants to build cost-aware solutions without becoming a finance expert.
Outcome: You'll leave with a shared FinOps mindset and concrete ideas you can apply to your Azure workloads right away
