Power electronics is becoming ubiquitous. Renewable energy, electric transportation, energy storage and modern power conversion all depend on increasingly efficient and fast-switching power electronic converters.

But faster switching comes with a price. The same technology that enables smaller, more efficient and higher-performance converters also generates harmonic disturbances and electromagnetic noise that can interfere with the converter itself as well as surrounding electronic systems.

The challenge is becoming increasingly important with the introduction of wide-bandgap (WBG) semiconductor technologies and the growing penetration of power electronics throughout the energy system.

In this presentation, Professor Pooya Davari from Aalborg University will explain where conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) originates, how it propagates, and how engineers can predict and mitigate it already at the design stage.

The presentation will cover EMI prediction in power electronic systems, black-box modelling techniques and practical approaches to EMC filter design. The aim is to provide both an understanding of the underlying mechanisms and an overview of the engineering tools available for designing the next generation of EMC-compliant power electronic systems.

About the speaker

Pooya Davari is Professor of Power Electronics at Aalborg University, specializing in electromagnetic interference (EMI), power quality and harmonic mitigation in power electronic systems. He has published more than 200 technical papers and participates in IEC standardization work within TC77A. His awards include the 2025 Electrical Engineering Award from IDA, the 2022 Equinor Prize and the IEEE EMC Society Young Professional Award.
