Take part in our case competition in collaboration with world leader VELUX and Roskilde Festival. Come up with a proposal for how Roskilde Festival can make its forms of accommodation greener and more circular. Up to 10 proposals will be admitted to the festival for the whole week where they will get to test their own project for the whole duration of the festival!

Sign up as an individual or assemble a small team of 3-5 participants and come and join us when VELUX and Roskilde Festival invite you to design the festival forms of accommodation of the future. Where disposable tents and plastic pavilions are no-go but small campsite communities are still cherished.

From medio April until Roskilde Festival, our case competition will comprise five clear steps, both online and onsite. You will get loads of advice and inspiration, and the process is planned so that you can also complete your projects and exams at the same time!

Up to 10 projects will be selected by a jury. If your project is included, you will have the opportunity to build or set up your project in a special area at Roskilde Festival in the week leading up to the festival and then showcase and test it during the festival. For who better to test it than you and your team?

Read more and sign up today - there will be a maximum of 90 participants. Sign up on a "first come, first served" basis.

For conditions of participation please see below. If you are not a member of IDA, you can still join by creating a login and call our customerservice 3318 9696 to complete your profile.

About the case

Many of the tents, pavilions and camping chairs festival guests bring with them quickly get broken because they are made for single use. Many tonnes of plastic and aluminium therefore end up as waste at the festival site.

At Roskilde Festival, 2,000 tonnes of waste were produced in 2019 - of which about 60-80 percent were from things left behind by guests, such as tents, pavilions, air mattresses and camping chairs.

There is therefore huge potential for a rethink and changing the way we live at Roskilde Festival. But what is the best way to go about this? What should we take as our starting point? What should tents, pavilions or alternative forms of accommodation look like? How are they recycled? And which circular business model can best support them? What does a new sustainable, circular design mean for urban planning, and how can we maintain the smaller social communities in the camps without a plastic pavilion of dubious quality to gather under?

We can choose to look at the individual elements - what can replace a tent, a pavilion or a camping chair, or we can look at a more comprehensive concept, for example for developing the camp of the future or the business model behind it. We can also address the full cycle of an item: can it be set up / taken down easily? How is it stored afterwards? Can it be flat-packed? Can it be hired out to other festivals and circulated for a long time among many owners?

About the process

You can participate as a team of 3-5 people or you can be put in a team during the initial process.

You must set aside time for participation in the introduction event on 28 April and you must be able to participate in a full-day workshop in Copenhagen on 21 May

There will be dedicated resources and support for the case work and the practical arrangements throughout the process.

If your team is one of the selected best projects, you must also set aside time for construction during the working week at Roskilde Festival from 17-25 June (flexible dates - your choice).

You and your team will all get a ticket to every day of the festival, where among other things, you will need to test your solution.

You and your team will be provided with the necessary materials with regard to construction.

Can I participate?
