Join us at DieselHouse for an evening exploring the development of marine engine technology — from the very first diesel engine built in Denmark to the latest state-of-the-art solutions shaping the future of shipping.

The event takes participants on a technological journey through more than a century of engineering innovation. Starting with the historic engines at DieselHouse, we will look at how marine propulsion began, the engineering principles that laid the foundation of modern shipping, and how these technologies evolved into the large-scale engines powering global trade today.

From there, the focus shifts toward one of the biggest engineering challenges facing the maritime industry: decarbonisation.

The second part of the event will cover modern marine engine technology and the transition toward alternative fuels such as methanol and ammonia. The presentations will explore how engine designers and the shipping industry are working to reduce emissions while maintaining reliability, efficiency, and scalability in global sea transportation.

During the event, the iconic large diesel engine at DieselHouse will be started and running live — giving a rare opportunity to experience both the scale and mechanical complexity of historic marine engineering up close.

Food and refreshments will be provided during the evening, with time for networking and discussions with fellow engineers and maritime technology enthusiasts.

Whether your interest is energy systems, propulsion technology, sustainability, or maritime engineering, this event offers a unique perspective on where marine engines came from — and where they are heading next.
