Hearing clinics are facing increasing pressure due to demographic changes and growing societal demands. This development leads to longer waiting times for diagnostics and delayed access to appropriate hearing support solutions. How can we address this bottleneck – and what role can remote diagnostics and self-testing play in the future of hearing healthcare?
Join leading hearing health experts as we explore innovative digital testing solutions that are set to transform audiology practice and reshape the future hearing healthcare system.
You Will Meet
Lena Schell-Majoor Postdoctoral Researcher and Science Manager in the Medical Physics group and the Cluster of Excellence „Hearing4all”. Her research focus lies on audio technology and acoustics at the intersection of computer science, physics and medicine aiming at understanding and improving individualized hearing technology and health care for everyone.
Lene Dahl Siggaard MD, PhD, MBA at University of Southern Denmark and Clinical Lecturer
Lene is a clinical researcher specializing in otology and hearing healthcare. Her work focuses on innovative approaches to remote assessment for hearing aid users, including a large randomized trial showing that digital ENT evaluations are safe and effective. Her research has informed national initiatives in Denmark to implement remote hearing assessments. Lene is now leading efforts to bring this new screening approach to wider practice, addressing the growing demand for hearing rehabilitation among older adults.
Henrik Jacobsen, MD, mMBA, is a consultant ENT surgeon and Head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Audiology at Aalborg University Hospital. He has extensive experience in tertiary ENT and audiological care and has held senior leadership roles since 2015.
His clinical and research focus is audiology, with particular emphasis on hearing diagnostics, rehabilitation, and the organisation of hearing healthcare services.
Dr. Jacobsen has a strong interest in innovation and the development of future-proof and sustainable models of audiological care. His work includes the evaluation of digital, scalable, and data-driven solutions aimed at improving access, quality, and resource efficiency.
He was a co-initiator and co-supervisor of the InHEAR randomized clinical trial, initiated by the Danish Health Data Authority, evaluating digital remote triage in adult hearing rehabilitation. His research supports evidence-based policy development and long-term sustainability within publicly funded hearing care systems.
Jesper Hvass Schmidt Professor, Senior Consultant MD, PhD at University of Southern Denmark
Jesper earned his medical degree from the University of Southern Denmark and has become a specialist in ear, nose, and throat diseases. Since achieving specialist recognition, Jesper has been employed at the Department of Otolaryngology/Hearing Clinic at Odense Unisersitety Hospital, and as a senior physician. In parallel with his clinical work, Jesper holds an academic appointment as associate professor at the University of Southern Denmark, where he teaches about hearing and balance disorders.
Jesper completed a PhD focused on hearing assessment and hearing aid use among adults, including research on remote ENT assessments. His work has contributed to national initiatives for implementing digital hearing screening, bridging research and clinical practice to improve access to hearing healthcare.
