We are all eagerly awaiting the first summer sunshine - and we know that they awake something of an urge for pink wine! But which one to choose? Not all rosé is the same, there are genuine and stark differences. What are these differences and what should you pay attention to when choosing a bottle to buy?
Rosé wines are uniquely defined by their method of production. Like with other wines the geography and grape variety of course play a role, but a lot is decided on by the winemaker. Colour is an obvious one: it’s derived from grape skins and depending on how long a winemaker leaves the skins with the grape juice, the exact shade of pink can be selected. It could be nearly white, it could be a slightly pale red, or anything in between.
Colour is of course just one parameter. Examining the differences between saignée and ‘direct press’ rosés, we will learn about flavour in rosé - and also look at when simply blending red wine with white is permitted. We will also consider the effect of a range of other winemaking activities on the wine including the use of oak, fermentation temperatures and more. We will also learn how to store rosé well: there's often a little twist less often seen with other wines and poorly stored bottles are often a reason why some don't much enjoy rosé.
We will taste 8 wines, naturally starting with a pair of lovely rosé sparkling wines, including a Champagne - introducing yet another winemaking method or two! After that we will examine key distinct styles of still rosé wines, at different price-points, explaining some of the particularly exciting grape varieties, regions and trends as we go.
If you love rosé - join us for a fun evening.
If you haven’t caught the rosé bug yet - come find your personal gateway rosé, they really are not all the same!
This tasting will be presented in English by Denmark’s wine tasting champion Domen Prešern DipWSET.
This tasting is open for everyone, but as we sometimes will be very detailed, it does give a better experience, if you have some basic knowledge of wines. A good help is to study this “cheat-sheet” kortlink.dk/2pdep and kortlink.dk/2pdfs, to get a basic understanding of wines, their appearance, aromas, flavours and structure.
It is possible to order a quick snack meal served at 18:10. Options will be sent.
The presentation will be in English
