We have the technology to monitor buildings – now we need to start using it.
We can measure and document the actual condition of buildings – but we rarely do so in a systematic way. How do we avoid both collapse and unnecessary demolition? Using Bellahøj as a case, the focus is on monitoring, standards, and decisions based on data

Extreme weather events and an ageing building stock are placing increasing demands on the documentation of the load-bearing capacity and robustness of existing structures. Technologies for structural monitoring and dynamic identification are now well developed, yet they are still only used to a limited extent as a basis for decision-making.
How do we avoid both collapse and unnecessary demolition? Using Bellahøj as a case study, the lecture focuses on how monitoring, measurement methods, and the applicable codes and standards can be applied so that assessments of safety and remaining service life are based on actual data rather than assumptions.
The presentation addresses the need for a more measurement-based and verifiable foundation for decisions regarding renovation, strengthening, or demolition of existing buildings.
The event concludes with light refreshments at Banken Food Hall, a five-minute walk from Navitas.
Students from VIA University College in Horsens will have their train tickets reimbursed.
