IDA's position
Artificial intelligence and the algorithms behind it are playing an increasingly significant role in our lives as citizens and as a competitive factor for Danish businesses.
Artificial intelligence is an underlying force that filters the information we receive, makes decisions on our behalf, and analyses data about us. It is therefore crucial that we determine how artificial intelligence may influence the way we live our lives and the kind of world we want to create.
For this reason, it is important that we embrace the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence while at the same time keeping a close eye on its potential drawbacks.
At the same time, we must ensure the development of a strong Danish research environment in artificial intelligence that strengthens both skills and technological innovation, while also using data ethics and responsibility as international competitive advantages.
AI and ethics report
The think tank DataEthics and the ethics group of the SIRI Commission have jointly produced a report focusing on scenarios and recommendations.
We should
- ensure that citizens are as well equipped as possible to live in a world with the constant influence of AI
- avoid developing AI with the purpose of replacing humans, and instead ensure that AI always complements people and acts only as a cobot – a robot that collaborates with humans
- ensure that humans always have the final say and always know whether they are interacting with a machine or another human being
- consider privacy risks and data ethics implications for individuals from the very beginning of the design and development process
- ensure the right to anonymity for people in Denmark – just as citizens have the right to a confidential address – and develop a standard for explaining how algorithms work
- encourage companies, organisations and public authorities to develop their own data ethics principles that go beyond the requirements of data protection legislation
- require focused efforts to reduce problematic bias in data
- incorporate equality into the development and design of AI services and systems so that people with fewer resources also benefit from technological progress
