Who we are 

Arla Foods is a big global dairy company with approximately 20,000 employees across 30 countries and over 8,450 dairy farm owners in Denmark, Sweden, United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. Thus, Arla is a cooperative, a global business, a family of brands and thousands of people working together across markets. ​​​​​​​While each of us have important individual roles to play, from farmers to marketeers, food scientists to distributors, it is our collective strength that sets us apart as a company that's more cooperative than corporate. 

What we do and why we do it 

In Arla Foods, our research and new product development teams work together to build science, new technologies, local knowledge, consumer tastes and regulatory frameworks to develop new product formulations for launch e.g., into a new market. At Arla Innovation Centre, along with product development teams in the UK, Sweden, China, Germany, Netherlands, Finland and the US, we passionately innovate from farm to plate to create the future dairy products to the world. We do this with state-of-the-art science and consumer labs and a 2000 m^2 pilot plant, with more flexibility to install any type of process needed for our innovation projects. Our researchers are strongly connected, and make innovation happen, all across Arla and its markets by working closely with suppliers, universities, and specialist technology companies.

Working as a PhD at Arla Foods

As a PhD in Arla Innovation you are a part of transforming knowledge of food science, technology and nutrition into business opportunities for Arla. This is done both by using current scientific knowledge but also by being part of conducting projects to gain new knowledge. In addition, within Arla Innovation we have numerous external research projects aimed to drive science forward and resulting in findings that are useful for the dairy sector. At the Arla Innovation Centre, you become part of a multicultural organization with a great working atmosphere.
