Advanced Biofuel - Direct Thermochemical Liquefaction (DTL) Conference, Workshop and Networking Day

From technology development to commercial deployment

Direct Thermochemical Liquefaction (DTL) technologies can convert biomass, organic residues and waste streams into energy-dense biocrudes that can be upgraded into low-carbon fuels. The technologies have developed significantly in recent years. The key question is increasingly no longer only whether the technologies work, but how we move from research and pilot scale through demonstration and FOAK projects to commercial production and market uptake.

Join us in Aalborg for a full-day conference, workshop and networking event bringing together the Nordic and international DTL ecosystem: technology developers, researchers, industrial partners, investors, public funding organisations, fuel suppliers, shipowners and potential customers.

The conference builds on the successful DTL networking event held approximately 2½ years ago. This time, the focus moves further towards scale-up, upgrading, financing, certification, offtake and commercialisation.

The programme will address questions such as:

• What is new in DTL technology development?
• What is still missing between pilot, demonstration and commercial-scale plants?
• How should advanced biocrudes be upgraded – through decentralised upgrading or existing refinery infrastructure?
• What do shipowners, fuel suppliers and other customers require before committing to offtake?
• How can the environmental and commercial value of advanced biofuels be documented and realised?
• How do we finance the journey from research and pilot plants through demonstration and FOAK to commercial scale?
• What are the remaining barriers to creating a commercially viable DTL industry?

About the conference

The conference is organised by the HTL Accelerator project in collaboration with IEA Bioenergy Task 34 – Direct Thermochemical Liquefaction and IDA Energy.

HTL Accelerator brings together technology, research and commercial expertise with the objective of accelerating HTL technologies from demonstration towards concrete, investable projects and commercial value chains.

The event brings together several ongoing Danish and international initiatives and provides a meeting place for projects working with HTL, solvothermal liquefaction, catalytic fast pyrolysis, upgrading of advanced bio-oils and their application as advanced fuels.
