We arrange this event in a different way than our traditional Monday meetings, so be prepared! We will have a total of six short presentations followed by a one hour panel discussion - including the presenters and you - the audience.

The first three presentations will focus on actual operational experiences attained with alternative fuels, most recent test results and considerations to the impact towards ship design. After a sandwich break, the three latter presentations will focus on the broader application of alternative fuels in the perspective of fuel bunkering and availability, propulsion technologies in general as well as specific considerations of fuel cells.

Programme

17.00 – 17.05 Welcome and housekeeping rules
by Philip Holt, Senior Naval Architect, MAN Energy Solutions
The event is co-hosted by Harshit Tripathi, Head of Fleet Efficiency & Decarbonisation, Ultrabulk and Christian Simon Nielsen, Senior Project Manager, DFDS

17.05-17.50 Presentations on practical experiences gained for methanol and ammonia and their impact on ship design. Experiences on methanol and ammonia
by Rasmus Holm Bidstrup, Principal Promotion Manager, MAN Energy Solutions

The MAN B&W ME-LGIM engines have experienced a significant uptake in newbuilding contracting in the past 3 years. MAN Energy Solutions provide an update on the latest design updates and service experiences from engines in service.
The presentation will furthermore include a brief into to the very latest results from the ammonia engine development, with a focus on the two-stroke ammonia combustion testing.

Laura Mærsk and e-methanol production
by Christian Skoudal Løth, Senior Project Manager, Mærsk

Mærsk will present Laura Mærsk as a case and include the e-Methanol production in Kassø to give some perspective on the entire supply chain of future fuels. Based on this the current status on where Mærsk is today in terms of vessel orders and supply requirements on fuels in the future will be given.

DFDS and alternative fuels, status in Q1 2024
by Jens Peter Baltersen, Senior Project Manager, DFDS

Will touch upon the experiences we have gained in DFDS using biofuel on one vessel so far, as well as reveal the rough plans both for biofuel and for the two other fuels in focus, methanol and ammonia (also batteries for certain routes).
Jens Peter will further touch upon the obvious show-stoppers/challenges we are facing with respect to new fuels being a medium sized, regional short-sea Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax operator

17.50-18.20 Questions to and debate on the first three presentation
moderated by Lars Robert Pedersen, Deputy Secretary General, Bimco

18.20-18.50 Break with  sandwich and soft drinks

18.50-19.30 CIP
by Philip Christiani, Partner, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners
Presentation on the way

Brief overlook of different fuel pathways
by Peter Lystrup Christensen, Head of Ship Technology Systems, Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping

The presentation will include the centers’ view and work within different fuel pathways and link them with fuel cell technologies. It will touch upon an ongoing project for feasibility and consider impact on battery powered vessel design.

Hydrogen and fuel cells for carbon free shipping
by Kristina Fløche Juelsgaard, Director of Market Development, Ballard Power Systems

The presentation will introduce Ballard Power Systems Europe and explores the use of hydrogen as a maritime fuel, delving into its advantages and disadvantages. The focus then shifts to the type approved fuel cell product, FCwave200, emphasizing its significance in decarbonizing shipping , as a fuel cell technology designed specifically for maritime applications. The presentation concludes with a case featuring the Norled hydrogen ferry.

19.30-20.00 Questions to and debate on the latter three presentations
moderated by Lars Robert Pedersen, Deputy Secretary General, Bimco
