More about the two presentations:
- The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) relies on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to set standards for product environmental performance, minimizing impacts from raw materials to disposal by assessing energy, materials, durability, and repairability. Karen Andreassen will present the ways in which LCA has been embedded including the chosen methodology and key assumptions. Karen will also talk about how ESPR implementing measures are connected to other EU product policies and EU sustainable finance such as taxonomy and ESG requirements.
- The presentation by Nikolaos Emmanouil will focus on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and its increasing integration into regulatory frameworks related to sustainable construction. Nikolaos will present the hierarchy of relevant standards, including the development of c-PCR, their relation to the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF), and the role of Product Category Rules (PCR) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), including worst-case LCA declarations, that underpin these developments. He will also highlight the work of the European Commission’s Environmental Sustainability CPR Acquis subgroup and explain the methodological basis supporting this evolving structure. Furthermore, the presentation will address expected future developments in the Construction Products Regulation regarding LCA, including the anticipated transition from EPDs to integrating environmental data directly into CE marking, the potential loss of EPD content, and the resulting question of whether EPDs will remain necessary in the future
