What automated modeling can do for us -- and what we can do for automated modeling
Is conceptual modelling dead? Many powerful AI tools promise to replace manual modelling altogether. In this talk, we examine what automatic modelling can already achieve, where it still falls short, and how we could address critical challenges.

Conceptual models are a commonly used way to represent knowledge, processes, and requirements in all kinds of organizations. Creating them requires the collaboration of modelling experts and domain experts, often over multiple sessions. For this reason, they are quite expensive to create and take up a significant share of the time planned for projects. With the recent emergence of powerful artificial intelligence (AI) systems, researchers and practitioneers alike start to automate the modelling process more and more. While this reduces the time spent on modelling, it also introduces new challenges and risks. Chief among those are; 1) concerns about privacy and confidentiallity, when sending information to third parties, 2) questions of corectness and completeness of models, and 3) sustainability and environmental aspects of using AI. This talk will discuss the new possibilities AI in conceptual modelling provides, present the challenges it brings, and highlight ideas for addressing these challenges.
