Navigating the next era of AI: Ethics, Regulations and Governance in a Transformative Age

In today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape, the intersection of ethics, regulations, and governance has become a critical topic of discussion. As we witness the proliferation of AI applications across various domains, it is essential to address the ethical implications associated with these technologies. As we navigate this transformative era, it is our responsibility to shape AI that align with societal values, uphold human rights, and foster a sustainable AI ecosystem. The speech will address, the role of the recently proposed AI Act in Europe, which aims to regulate AI systems and ensure transparency, accountability, and fairness. Furthermore, discuss the importance of robust governance frameworks for AI, which involves collaboration between different stakeholders to establish guidelines, standards, and best practices. By fostering a holistic approach to AI governance, organizations can mitigate risks, promote innovation, and build trust in AI technologies.

Bio: Mobeen is Consulting Director in VENZO and advising clients on development of Responsible AI Governance framework. He is also external lecturer at Copenhagen Business School focusing on Responsible AI among other regulatory compliance related topics.

Who Needs an Explanation? A case of Transaction Monitoring in Banks

Critical decisions such as determining your bank credit score or identifying abnormalities on your X-ray are increasingly supported by AI solutions. When we cannot precisely explain the AI model's reasoning, a 'black box' problem arises. Explainable AI (xAI) has been promoted as the solution to our 'black box' problem and is supposed to build trust in AI.

But is it really a problem? Can we even explain it (even with xAI) – who actually needs that explanation, and should we even trust AI?

Bio: Julie Gerlings holds a Master’s degree in IT from Copenhagen Business School (CBS), works as a consultant at Carve Consulting, and is a PhD Fellow at CBS, where she researches xAI in critical decisions. For the past four years, she has collaborated with a European bank and a health tech startup to investigate how humans interact with AI and the need for xAI. As a consultant, Julie advises on, develops, and implements AI solutions.

Optimizing AI Integration for Software Engineering in Denmark

This presentation explores the integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) within software engineering, emphasizing a human-centered approach tailored for Denmark's technological ecosystem. By synthesizing findings from a recent study and a Grans Solution grant proposal, we highlight the critical factors influencing AI adoption and the development of practical tools for AI customization. The study employs a convergent mixed-methods approach, incorporating insights from 183 software engineers, and introduces the Human-AI Collaboration and Adaptation Framework (HACAF). Our discussion will also address the strategic implications for software development practices, focusing on enhancing productivity, reliability, and maintainability within the context of Scandinavian values and sustainability goals.

Bio: Daniel Russo is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Aalborg University in Copenhagen. His research interests focus on augmenting the effectiveness of software engineers throughout the software development lifecycle by means of theories, empirical research methods, and tools.
