Consultant in refrigeration and heat pump technologies at the Danish Technological Institute.
This work presents an optimal control strategy that transforms CO2 booster refrigeration systems into flexible energy assets through intelligent heat recovery. Using Reinforcement Learning, our algorithm learns to adjust operations based on real-time electricity prices. The case study demonstrates 16% cost savings through smart thermal storage control, while simultaneously helping stabilize the grid and supporting renewable energy integration - proving supermarkets can cut costs and strengthen energy systems.
