Scaling Heat Pump Technology: 25 MW ammonia heat pumps

Sabroe has a long-standing track record in developing heat pump technologies based on natural refrigerants, offering ammonia, ammonia/water, and hydrocarbon solutions capable of delivering outlet temperatures up to 125 °C and heating capacities up to 9 MW.

In recent years, Sabroe has focused on advancing next‑generation screw compressors specifically optimized for ammonia heat pump applications. Two models have been launched, with more than 40 MW installed.

This presentation will summarize the insights gained from these deployments and how these learnings have enabled the development of even larger ammonia compressor platforms and high‑capacity heat pump systems.

About the speaker: 

Per Skov is senior product manager for Sabroe Heat Pumps. He has been working with heat pumps with natural refrigerants since 2014 in different roles and responsibilities.

With expertise in natural refrigerants and especially ammonia systems, he drives product strategy and development initiatives that bridge engineering heat pump innovation with real-world application.
