Collaboration and conflict management
IDA members help shape IDA. Both as volunteers and as participants in our events, you help create an inclusive community.
Because there are many people in our community, there must be room for diversity. However, cooperation should never be uncomfortable for anyone. Volunteering at IDA should be attractive, and together we must ensure a good and healthy volunteer environment for all of us.
It is therefore important that all IDA members know that they can be part of a community where we all do what we can to prevent offensive and inappropriate behaviour – and that any disagreements are dealt with before they escalate into conflicts.
It should not be left to individuals to find the solution if disagreements or conflicts arise, so we have created some framework tools for how we can work together to create a collaborative space that everyone can be part of. Many different types of problems can arise, which is why we also need to have frameworks for many different types of solutions. The framework tools should serve as our common basis for creating the culture we want – and as a starting point for bringing this culture to life.
One way to help create this culture is to align expectations within your own board, where you discuss the distribution of responsibilities and roles, among other things.
To do this, you can use the tool ‘Check på bestyrelsen (Aligning the board)’ (in Danish).
The tools address how we behave towards each other, the responsibilities we share and the expectations we have of each other.
If any of us experience inappropriate behaviour or find ourselves in a conflict, the tools should also help to ensure that it is dealt with quickly and in a reassuring manner for everyone involved. This means that, if necessary, we will also take swift and more drastic action to preserve the good that already exists and that could be lost in an unresolved conflict.
Our framework tools are divided into three different documents:
We also have a short version that outlines the content of the documents if you need a quick overview. You can find it here: A safe community, short version
Please note that these are in Danish for the time being. If you need assistance with IDA's code of conduct and processes, please contact your coordinator
Together, we can lay the groundwork for ensuring that the IDA community will continue to be a safe and positive place to be a part of in the future.
