In a time when workload and stress are widespread challenges in the workplace, artificial intelligence (AI) can be a valuable assistant. But how can AI help structure work, prioritize tasks, and reduce stress in practice? This is the focus of the course AI and Workload.

AI as a practical solution to workload

"The course is about how AI can be used in relation to workload and stress. It is divided into four scenarios: prevention, managing workload, dealing with situations when the pressure becomes too great, and returning to work successfully afterwards," explains occupational psychologist Ebbe Lavendt, who teaches the course.

Participants gain not only a theoretical understanding of AI’s potential but also concrete prompts and techniques that they can apply in their daily work.

"For many people, the hardest part is figuring out what AI can actually be used for. The course gives them answers about the opportunities available to them - right down to specific prompts they can use in their work," says Ebbe Lavendt.

From stress management to efficiency

The course attracts a wide range of participants, but one trend quickly becomes apparent:

"It appeals more to people interested in efficiency than to those specifically interested in stress management. Many want to learn how they can do things faster, more easily, and better," says Ebbe Lavendt, adding:

"Most participants have an engineering mindset - an expectation that we can optimize our way out of problems."

During the course, participants have the opportunity to work with different AI models and experiment with their practical applications.

"During the course, we can pick up on the issues that arise and use AI to solve the specific challenges that participants bring forward themselves. That's when the energy in the room really starts to rise," says Ebbe Lavendt.

AI as the instructor’s sparring partner

In addition to supporting participants, AI also serves as a valuable resource for the instructor.

"AI is also a teaching assistant for me. If I can't answer a question, I use it by passing the question on and saying, 'Why don't we see what AI has to say about it?' Suddenly, we have an additional qualified perspective in the room," explains Ebbe Lavendt.

An important lesson from the course is that consulting multiple AI models can help ensure the quality of responses.

"If their answers are consistent, I'm more inclined to trust them. But if you only ask one model, you risk getting an incorrect answer without realizing it," he points out.

AI’s future role in working life

AI is developing rapidly, and so are its applications.

"Every time the course is delivered, an incredible amount has happened within AI. That means the course must constantly be updated to remain relevant," says Ebbe Lavendt.

One of the course's interesting perspectives is how AI can access and analyze personal work materials.

"If a participant has access to their internal files through Copilot, it means the AI can pull relevant information directly into its responses. That's a huge advantage when AI can be integrated into your daily workflow," explains Ebbe Lavendt.

AI: a resource, not a replacement

AI can make work processes faster and easier, but it is still up to the user to ensure quality.

"AI can produce very good drafts, but they still require the final touch from a skilled professional to become truly excellent," says Ebbe Lavendt, concluding:

"It's not just about working faster - it's about working smarter and avoiding stress along the way."

Used thoughtfully, AI can help employees create more efficient and sustainable work routines. As both an assistant and a sparring partner, the technology has the potential to support productivity and well-being at the same time.
