Peer Group for PhD students
Get insights through inspiring discussions and by sharing experiences with likeminded PhD students.
When you are employed in a PhD position, you have a unique work life: the independence of a student mixed with the responsibility of a traditional employee.
However, this combination can make it difficult to practice a sustainable work/life balance, while still achieving your goals.
When you work independently over a long period of time, you become your own most important colleague.
Therefore, understanding your own strenghts and weaknesses well enough to use them to your advantage is essential if you want to work as productively and efficiently as possible.
Additionally, the fact that you are in a temporary position, probably invites the question what should I do afterwards?
- whether it is getting a job in the industry, continue as a post doc, or something else, the key is to find the career path that fits your ambitions and interests.
IDAs peer group for PhD students is a confidential forum that aims to support PhD students in their work lifes and create a foundation for a succesful transition to the next chapter.
We want to facilitate a space where IDAs PhD student members can get clarification and insights through inspiring discussions and by sharing experiences.
- Max 15 members
- 5 physical meetings pr. year
- IDA facilitators plan and facilitate the meetings
- A membership includes 5 meetings and costs only 495 DKK

- Good communication with your superviser, research group etc.
- Succeding in Academia - what are your criterias for success?
- Preparing for employment performance and development reviews (PDR/MUS)
- Feeling stuck and unmotivated
- …anything related to being employed in a PhD position.
Volunteer facilitators will lead the meetings
The peer group is planned and facilitated by voluntary IDA members as the final part of their course in professional facilitation. IDA’s experienced network facilitator will support and supervise the volunteer peer group facilitators throughout the entire process.
You choose the themes
The peer group takes a point of departure in cases from your working lives and careers. Our tools are mentoring and discussion, case work and visits from external experts who can contribute with new methods. Your interests serve as the foundation for the peer group, and you can contribute with ideas for subjects, cases or presentations that facilitate a constructive conversation at the group meetings. The group is confidential and a safe space for you to discuss current challenges with like-minded individuals who are not personally invested in your workplace.
Be aware that
The peer group is for IDA-members only and is only set up if an adequate number of people show interest. The peer group meetings will be located wherever there is the most geographical demand.
